Communicating a vision
and objectives to your family is as important as communicating
them to the company. My informal "contract" with Connie regarding
the founding of Banner Blue was my first step in accomplishing
this.

You cannot control
life events. Life is sometimes fragile, sometimes robust, and
always full of the unexpected. The early birth of my daughter
is an example of how such an event can totally pre-empt business
plans.

You can balance the
demands of a family with those of being an entrepreneur, but there
is no such thing as "having it all." You must prioritize
and make choices. I try to imagine myself looking backwards from
some time in the future to insure that I do not neglect something
today that I will regret tomorrow. I placed special importance
on attending events, making a point not to miss a birthday, anniversary,
doctor's appointment, school meeting, school performance, or dinner
at home.
